The Homestead

The whole house and garden. Entirely yours.

Titiwai is a four-bedroom farmhouse on a working farm in the Waitomo hills. There are no shared spaces and no other guests. You get the whole house, the deck and the garden around it.

Spend the day underground in the caves, come home to a fire, and watch the stars come out over the bush. It's properly dark out here.

Te reo Māori titiwai tee · tee · why

The Māori name for the glowworm. These tiny larvae cling to damp banks and roots and light them up blue-green in the dark. They have lived in the caves and bush of Waitomo for millions of years.

The House

Room for two families, or a big group of friends

Good to Know

Before you come

No mobile coverage

There's no cell signal at the house. Starlink wifi covers the house, and wifi calling works on most phones. Download maps before you leave town.

Check-in and check-out

Check in from 3 pm and check out by 10 am. Minimum stay is 2 nights, and cancellation is free up to 14 days before arrival. We send directions a few days before you arrive, because rural addresses confuse GPS.

Rainwater and septic

Water comes from rain tanks and is UV treated. Please keep showers short in a dry summer, and flush only toilet paper.

Bring your food

No meals are provided. The nearest supermarket is in Te Kūiti, about 15 minutes away.

On the property

You have the whole house and section to yourselves. Around it is a working farm, so you may see people about, but they'll respect your privacy. Please don't go into the paddocks without asking us first, and leave gates as you find them.

House rules

Smoking outdoors only. No pets. No parties or events.

Reserve Your Stay

Come and find the light

You pay one nightly rate for the whole house. There's no cleaning fee and no per-guest charge. Book here with us direct for the best price.
